Depending on what state you are in, you may be charged fees on top of your policy premium. These are determined by State Insurance Filings.
The two types are:
Policy Fee
New policies (and in some states, renewal policies) have a once-per-year fee called a policy fee on every policy issued. This fee is charged at the beginning of your insurance term, no matter whether you are paying monthly or annually. If your renewal policy also has a policy fee, it will be charged when your policy renews, in the first charge for your new policy.
Installment Fee
An installment fee is a fee added to each premium payment you make, and is designed to cover money movement and bank fees. How much is charged and how often changes state to state, but for the most part, if you are paying monthly, you will see an installment fee on every monthly charge. If you are paying annually, some states still charge a fee on that charge, but some don't.
